Although the weather is making a last-ditch attempt at Summer, the nights (as my Grandma would say) are drawing in. Autumn is in the air.
With darker nights ahead, now is the time to give some serious thought to your lighting. I’m not talking about a complete redesign and rewire; I’m talking about easy, no fuss, plug-in-and-go options to up-date your space and give a cosy glow to those longer, dark evenings.
The Bessy Lamp from Loaf is a firm favourite of mine. It is elegant, with a modern touch and is really versatile. Use it to create an inviting hallway or create a cosy corner in your lounge. Choose the pleated graphite shade for a touch of understated glamour.
I just can’t get enough of the Danish lighting brand, Vita Copenhagen. Their Eos feather pendants remain a firm favourite of mine for adding instant softness to a space; perfect for a bedroom. However, it’s the new colours to the Carmina mini range that I currently lust after. Graceful and sculptural, the rose pink creates a beautiful glow. If you’re feeling bold, take a look at the Sahara or Azure to inject a bit of fun.
Floor lamps are great for those awkward, gloomy corners. You can create a cosy reading nook in an instant. Try this one from Cox and Cox; it’s tall and you don’t need loads of space for it. In brass, it will work with both traditional or modern schemes.
If you like the industrial look, you’ll love this wire cage light from Rocket St George. It couldn’t be easier to add a bit of vintage charm to your space. Just plug it in and hang. Try it on a bookshelf or add a hook to the wall.
Finally, don’t underestimate the humble candle. It’s soft flickering glow will enhance any lighting scheme, and the Oliver Bonas candle pots in warm metallics are the perfect accompaniment to the Autumnal nights ahead. They’re scented, too.
All you need now is a cosy blanket and a good book…
